Deadline extension: The tax return for 2019 must be submitted by the end of August 2021

In light of the coronavirus crisis, the grand coalition has decided to extend the deadline for submitting annual tax returns for 2019. The Federal Ministry of Finance (BMF) has already confirmed the extension of the submission deadline.

The deadline is therefore the: 31.08.2021

According to coalition politicians, this extension is to be regulated in the „next tax law“.

Deferral options have also been extended

According to the BMF, deferral options will also be extended. Anyone who has suffered direct economic damage as a result of the coronavirus crisis and its measures can apply to their tax office for a deferral. This must be submitted by 31.03.2021. According to the ministry, the deferrals will run until 30.06.2021 at the latest.
