Millions of parking tickets illegal!

Once again, the Higher Regional Court in Frankfurt has caused a sensation. On Monday, 20.01.2020, the competent judges made a decision that is worth millions. The Higher Regional Court has declared hundreds of thousands of parking tickets against parking offenders in Frankfurt invalid. Anyone who has received a parking ticket from a „private service provider“ does not have to pay!

The court ruled that the monitoring of stationary traffic and the punishment of violations are sovereign tasks and may not be taken over by private service providers.

The impact of this decision on the ongoing proceedings is still unclear. However, anyone who has received a ticket from a private service provider should not pay for the time being. For those who have already paid, the situation looks bad, as an action to reopen proceedings is only possible under strict conditions.

The parking lots of supermarkets are excluded from this decision, as these are private properties and monitoring by private service providers is permitted.
