New traffic rules and fines for 2020

New traffic rules and fines 2020

The year 2020 will bring some changes to traffic law: in some cases higher fines for traffic violations, but also new regulations that are intended to increase road safety, especially for cyclists.

Anyone who does not take part in forming a rescue lane will in future face a fine of 200 euros and 2 „points in Flensburg“.

Anyone who drives through a rescue lane must expect a fine of 240 euros, two points and a one-month driving ban.

Anyone who parks in the second row must be prepared to pay a fine of 55 euros instead of the previous 15 euros. If you obstruct others, the fine increases to 70 euros, and if you endanger others, to 80 euros.

Anyone who parks on footpaths, cycle paths or high-speed cycle paths or in a disabled or electric car parking space without authorization can be fined 55 euros in future.

In addition, higher fines and penalties apply for speeding violations: if you exceed the speed limit by 21 km/h in urban areas and 26 km/h outside urban areas, you may be banned from driving for one month. If you exceed the speed limit by more than 16 km/h in urban or extra-urban areas, you will also receive a point in Flensburg. Last but not least, the use of speed camera apps and radar detectors is now also prohibited. Anyone who does not comply with this and is „caught“ will pay a fine of 75 euros and receive 1 point in Flensburg.

New traffic regulations should also ensure greater safety for cyclists and encourage environmentally conscious participation in road traffic.

Some examples are:

In future, the „green arrow“ at traffic lights will also apply to cyclists - regardless of whether they are riding on the road or on a parallel cycle path. The safety distance that motor vehicles must maintain from cyclists, pedestrians and e-scooters has been increased: now at least 1.5 m in urban areas and at least 2 m outside urban areas.

Trucks and buses are only allowed to drive at walking speed when turning right where bicycle and pedestrian traffic is expected.
